Speaker Finneran to Address Chamber - March 28
The legislative edition of the Good Morning Metro
South breakfast program is scheduled for Wednesday,
March 28, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m., at the Massasoit
Conference Center on Crescent Street in Brockton.
Speaker Thomas M. Finneran will be the featured
speaker at this special event. Unemployment
Insurance, MCAS Testing, Workers Compensation, and a
proposal to offer paid Family Medical Leave are just a
few of the issues that affect your business. Speaker
Finneran is a key player in the debate emerging over
these issues in the 2001-2002 legislative session.

Good News
Chamber members are invited to send information for the Good News column to the Chamber office.
Bridgewater Savings Bank announces that John Robert
Allen III has joined the Bank as assistant vice
president and commercial loan officer. Located at the
Bank's Raynham Operations Center, Allen will
concentrate on maintaining and expanding the Bank's
commercial customer base. Allen joins the Bank with
more than six years of banking experience. Most
recently, he served as a credit analyst in the
commercial credit department at Rockland Trust
Company. He also has experience as a field examiner
in the asset-based lending divisions of Fleet Banks
and BankBoston.
During the month of January, there were more than 28
requests from victims of domestic violence for 911
cell phones at Brockton Family and Community
Resources. Unfortunately, according to Mona Lou
Callery, Director of Community Outreach and Education,
"the demand for 911 cell phones has always been
greater than what programs have available to share."
COHIA, a collaboration of community services that
address health issues in southeastern Massachusetts,
has organized a cell phone donation drive for the week
of April 16 through April 22. Area businesses,
families and organizations are encouraged to
participate by collecting good used/new cell phones
and chargers. During this week-long campaign, phones
may be dropped off at Height's Crossing, 35 Christy
Place, Brockton, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to

Dr. Edward Minnock has been named Dean of Graduate and
Continuing Education at Bridgewater State College.
Dr. Minnock comes to Bridgewater from Saginaw Valley
State University in Michigan, where he served as
executive director for continuing education for five
years. He looks forward to meeting business leaders
in the community and listening to their ideas on the
educational needs of the region.
Hematologist/oncologist and internal medicine
physician Satinder Dhillon, M.D., has started an
independent practice at the Norfolk Center for Cancer
Care and Hematology located at 909 Summer Street in
Stoughton. Dr. Dhillon is board-certified in medical
oncology and internal medicine by the American Board
of Internal Medicine and she is a member of the
American College of Physicians and Massachusetts
Medical Society. Dr. Dhillon has admitting privileges
at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center and Brockton
Hospital and may be reached at 781-341-6863.
PrimaryCare Affiliates, a physician group practice
affiliated with Brockton Hospital, announces the
recent addition of Durga E. Rao, M.D., to its
practice. Dr. Rao, who is board certified by the
American Board of Internal Medicine, earned her
medical degree at Guntur Medical College in India.
She completed her residency in internal medicine and
fellowship in nephrology at University Hospital, State
University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Rao is
seeing patients at the Randolph PrimaryCare Affiliates
office located at 25 Warren Street.
Additionally, PrimaryCare Affiliates announces the
addition of Roland J. Florio, M.D., to its practice.
Dr. Florio earned his medical degree at Autonomous
University of Guadalajara in Mexico. He completed his
internship in internal medicine at Kings County
Hospital in Brooklyn, New York and his residency in
internal medicine at Miriam Hospital in Providence,
Rhode Island. Dr. Florio is seeing patients at the
Brockton office located at 1300 Belmont St.
Mainframe Communications, Inc. has moved into a new
corporate headquarters in Easton. The new address is

Aghjayan describes the new office as a great leap

Nominations for ATHENA Award Now Being Accepted
The Metro South Chamber of Commerce and local agencies
of the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company are
pleased to announce their joint sponsorship of the
ATHENA Award. The ATHENA Award, created for the
Chamber of Commerce in Lansing, Michigan in 1982, has
expanded to over 350 cities in the United States,
Russia and Canada. It is presented in the form a

A Taste of Metro South
Features Food and Fun on March 21
The Metro South Chamber of Commerce, Massachusetts
Electric Company, The Enterprise and WBET/1460 AM will
present the ninth annual A Taste of Metro South on
Wednesday, March 21, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., at the
Massasoit Conference Center, located on Crescent
Street (Rte. 27) in Brockton.
Taste will feature samples from A Different Place -
Jamaican Cuisine, Ashleigh's Coffee Cafe, Brockton
Hospital, Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center,

Southeastern Massachusetts Venture Forum ~ April 5
The next Southeastern Massachusetts Venture Forum will
be held on Thursday, April 5, 2001, from 6:30 to 9:00
p.m., at the Martin Institute, Stonehill College's
regional center for education, research, and public
service. The Forum is managed by Southeastern
Massachusetts Manufacturing Partnership, an
industry-led, private non-profit corporation, in
collaboration with NTB Associates, a Bridgewater
marketing consulting firm. In addition to the Metro
South Chamber of Commerce and Stonehill College,
charter sponsors include Massachusetts Technology
Development Corporation; Bristol County Savings Bank;
D & D Web Works; Karam Financial Group; Massachusetts
Electric; NSTAR; RCW Mirus Inc.; and Shapiro, Israel &
Weiner.
Unique to Southeastern Massachusetts, the Forum's
purpose is to highlight regional entrepreneurs and
growth company issues. As a result, the Forum is
expected to increase the visibility of new venture
opportunities for investors and other stakeholders,
while strengthening and building an emerging
entrepreneurial network in this region.
The April 5th Forum will feature Joseph S. Iandiorio,
founder of Iandiorio & Teska in Waltham, speaking on
"Protecting Your Intellectual Property Rights." His
firm specializes in patents, trademarks, copyrights,
trade secrets, licensing and litigation of
intellectual property matters, employee and consultant
contracts, confidential disclosure agreements, and
other related areas of intellectual property. Mr.
Iandiorio has over 35 years of experience including a
period as an Examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark
Office. He is actively involved in fostering the
creation and growth of small businesses and
high-technology companies.
April's case study will focus on MBinternet, Inc.
(MBi) of Centerville, MA. MBi, a B2B eCommerce
solutions provider based on Cape Cod's Silicon
Sandbar, plans, builds and markets custom eCommerce
systems for the mid-size enterprise. At the core of
the eCommerce systems MBi deploys, is eGO, a
non-proprietary, open source and standards compliant
technology that enables companies to transform
traditional business processes to eCommerce without
exposing their legacy systems to risk or disruption.
Sergio Balegno, President and CEO, will present the
firm's business plan and get input from a team of
panelists and the audience.

held. Each monthly program will have two elements: a

followed by a case study of an emerging company. The
case study will include a review by a panel of three

presentation of the plan to the audience. Following
the panel discussion the audience will have the
opportunity to discuss issues related to the
presentation.

fellow members by providing information, resources,

Bridgewater Students Complete Chamber Service
Corey Jutz and Sara Bloomrose recently completed
internships at the Metro South Chamber of Commerce.
Corey and Sara are completing undergraduate studies in
Communications at Bridgewater State College and will
graduate in May. Meeting the needs of our members,
relating to the public, networking, and recording
public service announcements on radio are just some of
the communications skills the students learned this
past semester. In addition, Corey and Sara assisted
the Chamber staff on legislative, membership, program,
and general office administration.

Legislative Breakfast - March 28, 2001
On Wednesday, March 28, 2001, over one hundred and
fifty people will meet at the Massasoit Conference
Center in Brockton to hear House Speaker Thomas
Finneran discuss emerging business issues for the
2001-2002 legislative session. In addition,
participants will have the opportunity to interact
with their local legislator and hear first hand what
is in store for the business community on Beacon Hill.
Presently, Representative Christine Canavan,
Representative Geraldine Creedon, Representative
William Galvin, Representative Thomas Kennedy,
Representative Ronald Mariano, Representative Thomas
O'Brien, Representative Kathleen Teahan and Senator
Robert Creedon have confirmed their attendance at this
special event. The region's entire legislative
delegation also has been invited to participate.
