How to Start Your Business

SCORE On-Line (Service Corps of Retired Executives)

SCORE is an SBA program under which retired business people offer free counseling to start-ups and small businesses. At this site you can find several hundred SCORE counselors listed with their area of expertise.

Below are a list of resources submitted by individual SCORE counselors and found on the TEN webpage.

You can also contact the local chapter of SCORE by e-mail at score@metrosouthchamber.com with any specific questions or to schedule counseling.

Massachusetts Small Business Development Center

The SBDC can assist in creating a business plan, market analysis, cashflow management, financial plan development, HR issues, and international trade among other issues. They are partners in the Metro South Business Assistance Center and individual counseling can be scheduled through the Center. Their site contains an impressive list of links.

Business Resource Center Provides information on starting and running a small business, also includes on-line templates and worksheets.

Small Business Help Center Contains useful templates and tutorials for a start-up business owner.

The Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership/Clearinghouse on Entrepreneurship Education-CELCEE Provides links to on-line business resources, entrepreneurial centers, magazines, journals, and business schools.

U.S. Business Advisor Provides businesses with one-stop access to federal government information, services, and transactions.

Gulf Publishing Company Gulf Publishing Company offers books on regional-interest subjects, business and management, training and adult education, and science and technology.

Government Procurement

Primary Access Point Allows bidders to access databases containing contracting opportunities at various state and provincial level contracting offices in the U.S. and Canada. Other links provide valuable contract points at various public purchasing offices.

The Federal Marketplace Assists businesses in selling products and services to the federal government. Up to date Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and the Internet's only Active Federal Contracts database.

Commonwealth Procurement Access and Solicitation System (Massachusetts) Contains information on selling products and services to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a business registry to market your products and services to a worldwide audience.
