Athens, Greece - Tour Begins

Your tour begins in the capital city of Athens. This evening, join your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner.

Day 3: Monday, May 16, 2011
Athens - Piraeus - Board Cruise Ship - Mykonos - Cruising

Your Tour Manager offers a brief introduction to the origin and history of the Greek language. In the port of Piraeus, board the M/S Aquamarine cruise ship for a memorable 4-night cruise of the Greek Islands and Turkey. While on board breakfast, lunch and dinner are included daily. The ship features staterooms with modern amenities, dining rooms, nightly entertainment, casino*, internet, duty free shop, lounges, beauty salon, swimming pool and so much more. Cruise to Mykonos, the whitewashed jewel of the Cyclades Islands. Hundreds of tiny chapels dot this island with its beautiful windmills. Don’t miss Mykonos Town, where mazes of narrow streets link the whitewashed buildings.

Day 4: Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Kusadasi, Turkey - Patmos, Greece - Cruising

Arrive early this morning in the beautiful seaside resort of Kusadasi, Turkey. Perhaps enjoy an optional tour to the ruins of nearby Ephesus where you would see architectural masterpieces such as the great theatre, the baths, Hadrian’s Temple and the Library of Celsus before arriving at the Great Amphitheater. Later, cruise to Patmos, an island of outstanding natural beauty, rocky hills, tranquil beaches and many picturesque inlets.

Day 5: Wednesday, May 18, 2011
Rhodes - Lindos - Cruising

Enjoy a full day at leisure to explore Rhodes, known as the “Island of Roses.” Walk the street of the Knights or see the superb collection of mosaics at The Grand Master’s Palace. Stroll through the island’s gem, Lindos, one of the most important of the three great cities of ancient times with an acropolis dedicated to the goddess Athena. Set high on a hill 400 feet above the sea, on the brink of a precipice, Lindos is guarded by 13th century medieval walls.

Day 6: Thursday, May 19, 2011
Crete - Santorini - Cruising

Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and the mythological home of Zeus. You may choose an optional excursion to visit the Knossos excavations, the site of the ancient Minoan Kingdom dating back to 4000 B.C. when this great empire flourished on the island. Later, arrive on the fabled island of Santorini, the most spectacular destination in the Mediterranean. Enjoy leisure time to explore the fascinating landscape of vineyards, whitewashed chapels and volcanic cliffs or visit the nearby charming town of Oia. In Thira, the island’s capital, white-washed houses, narrow streets, open-air cafes and glittering boutiques cling to steep cliffs, accessible by cable car or mule.

Day 7: Friday, May 20, 2011
Piraeus (Athens) - Disembark Cruise Ship - Mycenae - Athens

Bid farewell to the Greek Islands. Cross the Corinth canal and travel to Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit the ancient ruins featuring the Beehive Tombs and the Lion Gate. Return to Athens for your three night stay.

Day 8: Saturday, May 21, 2011
Athens

A comprehensive tour of Athens features the Acropolis – a UNESCO World Heritage site, ruins of the Temple of Zeus, the Royal Palace, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Olympic Stadium. The remainder of your day is at leisure.

Day 9: Sunday, May 22, 2011
Athens

Enjoy a day at leisure to explore Athens historic sights independently. Or, you may choose to join an optional excursion to visit the ancient city of Delphi, one of Greece’s prominent religious centers. Celebrate the end of an unforgettable trip to Greece and Turkey with a delightful farewell dinner in Athens’ historic Plaka district. Feast on local cuisine and wine while enjoying Greek entertainment at a traditional taverna.
